In order to make the character move from Idle, to walk, to run I needed to create an animation graph. Within this graph, I imported all of my animations that were bound to the original T-Pose mesh.
The separate graph allowed me to create a variable in which the character gradually speeds up depending on the acceleration. The animation blueprint then needed to be connected with a state machine, this was a fairly simple part as it only involved setting up the speed variable to speed up and slow down.
The last step is to simply connect the speed variable to the player character in the blueprint shown below. Without this, my character would not be able to play the walk and run animations, and would only stay in the idle pose.
