Within my essay on retrofuture I have decided to include a section on the different fashion predictions of the genre. To begin I looked at the most well known trends from the 1930s and 1960s, however I was surprised to find that little artists of the time had a firm grasp on what people will choose to wear.
It seemed that some like H.G Wells with ‘Things to come’, thought that everyone would wear similar, plain clothes that were held together by cloth. Later ideas came out showing the absolute extremes, which considering trends from the 60s and 80s, isn’t as unbelievable. However I doubt some of the clothes will be practical for future living.
I will probably continue searching for more varied ideas, however it might be difficult for earlier artists, not a lot of them seemed too concerned with the fashion, and more about the lifestyle and architecture.
